The water tower was constructed in 1949 by the W.E. Caldwell Company. It was built to supply water to the nearby Brooks catsup plant. I saw it recently in a PBS documentary, but can't remember which one.

When you think about it, they shouldn't say that this is the world's largest bottle of catsup, because it's not a bottle of catsup. It's a water tower. Just sayin'.

This water tower is on IL Route 159, only a few miles away from Fairview Heights.

I remember when I could buy Brooks catsup. I think I've seen this tower before.....or maybe I've just seen a picture of it.

Very cool, LJ. Reminded me of the movie "Michael" (which I watch every Christmas and more), with John Travolta as the angel and he made his friends drive miles out of the way so he could see the world's biggest ball of twine! I LOVE that movie! Thanks for the jig.
