The Northwest Natives Alphabet Set by Diem Chau is an incredible collection of 52 individually carved crayons representing every letter of the alphabet along with an associated word starting with each letter.
The artworks were completed for an exhibition last year at the G. Gibson Gallery in Seattle. Since the show was in the Pacific Northwest, Chau decided to pair every letter with a species that was native to the area. On her blog, she remarks that ā€˜Xā€™ and ā€˜Zā€™ were especially challenging.
Chau (featured previously), a Vietnam native, came with her family to the United States as refugees in 1986. After receiving her BFA from Cornish College of the Arts, she has since exhibited her work in New York, Miami, Seattle and Los Angeles.
You can find much more of her work at the online links below.

She has stock in crayola? She also has made some miniature furniture items - not in crayon - so she is definitely drawn to carving on a small scale.

This stuff is very good! Much better than what I produced fifty some-odd year ago when I chewed on the ends instead of "staying between the lines" ;-) She is obviously quite talented. I hope she makes a lot of money at the exhibits so she can afford to continue on in other media like wood or marble. Just kidding of course, but I do wonder "Why crayons?", with Northwest Natives as the theme. Curiosity factor, attention getter? Sure, ivory's out of the question, but crayon? Good for a Jigidi puzzle though, with the colors and all. Thanks Pat!

Very clever and conscientious, isn't it? I posted the first seven letters yesterday if you would like to see what she did with those. http://www.jigidi.com/puzzle.php?id=BA4GHLS7 And thanks for your observant comment, jyl!

Great art and a very good puzzle; I especially liked the Great Blue Heron in blue and the Orca in its real colors. Thanks patw!
