Hi Rob, this is a great shot. The other day, I posted a photo of two wild turkeys walking by my sister's home, but your photo is a real close-up. I hope this one didn't become Thanksgiving dinner.

I left you a message:

Thanks Robyn for the info!!

Tell Jeremy "good job" for me! Thanks Rob! :)))

It's an Australian native bird Dave - they mostly seem to scrabble around the plants & lawn for grubs & bugs I think. They scratch & peck their way around the garden, jump the fence & you might not see them for weeks at a time. Sometimes you see a pair, but mostly it's just the one. Thanks!

warbler

Its a new one for me. Was it eating up there? Thanks to Jeremy for a nice photo!!

robryan

The yellow & bright red really stands out Sandy - and, no, I've never heard of anyone eating them! Thanks.

Rogue turkeys snooker??? LOL!! Sounds scary to me - especially if their claws are as big as these guys!!

My pleasure Aggie - thanks!

Thanks Beekay - I guess that's because it's an older suburb (our house was built in 1951) and there are lots of mature trees around!

I suppose he is Suzy - but I must admit I've never thought of them that way!!!

pumpkinhead

He's a handsome one with his red head and yellow scarf!

Beekay

He's a big bird! You have a regular bird sanctuary there Robyn! Well, with the exception of Layla.

When we lived in Minnesota there would be wild turkeys in town and they attacked cars and chased people.

chickiemama

Very interesting that it has that yellow ring on it's neck. Thanks robyn. Do people eat them?

robryan

I'm pretty surprised too chookie!!! We're about 1km from the nearest forest - Toohey Forest - and I've got no idea where these turkeys live!! We're surrounded by normal streets & houses and there's plenty of traffic, but you never see any roadkill beyond a toad or two!!!! Years ago we had a wandering peacock!!!! I know it lived about 2 streets away & I've seen it stop cars while it crossed the road!! That WAS an eye-opener!! Thanks!!

chookies

I'm intrigued at the different bird and wildlife you have in your State, rob, we get nothing like them down here. They seem to wonder in and out whenever they like too. Good photo, Jeremy.

robryan

It sure is Shirley!! We're in the middle of suburbia and both the male & female wander through regularly!! I'm just glad they don't stay!! I've seen photos & heard first hand the damage they can do when nesting!!!

shirley68

Interesting to see these guys coming into the suburb's, Rob.

robryan

He stayed there for about 1 hour that I know - and when I checked later - he'd disappeared!! I get worried when they roam through the yard looking for bugs - they have really long toe claws - and Layla cat charges them!! I've never seen them use them in anger but I'm always worried that they'll lash out at her!! And they're not small - about 2 feet tall!! Thanks Barb.

SunnyBarb25

So how did it end, Robyn? Did the turkey stay in the tree or flew away?
Great picture, thank you... :)
