I bought some of that Black Hawaiian salt, and two other Hawaiian mixtures for our son a couple of years ago. He bbqs a lot so went for good for meats types (one had a high % of red salt). 3 was cheaper than individual, so sent 3 to him. By golly, I forgot to ask what he thought of them...stupid me. But, it was the first time I knew of different colored salts. Yes, PM IS the epicurian for sure!! Appreciate your info :)
I'm amazed at your knowledge about salts, spices etc! You should try some Halen Mon which is mad from the waters of the Menai Straits about 10 miles from me! They use it in a lot of top restaurants over here!
It's only that it has a slightly higher amount of potassium than table salt, Kat. Yes John, I do use Szechuan salt! Actually, my most prized salt is Black Hawaiian salt! Great on pork and has the highest mineral content, next is French Grey salt.
I do so rely on your literacy John. ;-) WD isn't really improving, he seems to have settled into the constant back pain. I was a bit leary of the intimacy of taking care of someone, but that was for naught, we are such good friends, and he needs the help.
On my next sojourn into Wal-Mart, I'll look for the salt. My imbibing is limited to wine and margaritas, and I haven't had either for quite some time.
I'm reading things into your comments, Sue!! Happy days. I'm glad that I was wrong about thinking that you were feeling down from one of your comments! :-)) Any more news re WD?
I buy my Himalayan "Pink" salt at Walmart! Olde Thompson. In a 10 oz. adjustable grinder! Probably better on the Bloody Mary! Pink salt has a more subtle taste than table salt. It brings out the flavour of veg, very well. On a Margarita, I usually use, Margarita salt with a dusting of fine ancho chili powder. It's super tasty! Others use regular chili powder, but my stomach has trouble with it.
Hi y'all... Wow... thought I was just doing a puzzle... and come to find out I'm getting an education...! I'll have to try a Barleycorn!... and some pink salt and pepper too... ;-)
P.S. Himalayan salt also has a dark side. Commonly carved and used as salt lamps, for health and their beautiful soft light, they ionize the air in enclosed rooms, which is deadly to pet birds. Not so Weeee...
Bob's Epicurean Fun & Tasty Facts: Did you know there are 8 types of edible peppercorns and over 15 types of natural edible salts? I use 5 of the peppercorn types and 6 of the salts. Himalayan salt and pink pepper is a great combination on popcorn! Weeee...
No, I'm good, I've spent the morning manicuring a portion of the property, while the pool self cleans. A lovely day, its sunny, but windy, and the cacti are abloom. Now, I'm tired, but a satisfied tired.
Remember the hammock, and the umbrella clad cocktails? ;-P
Hmmm, this looks like something someone under the influence of John Barleycorn would attempt. Well, I'm sober but I want to Hang out with you this morning, so I'll have a go...
