This is the old wooden bridge that you had to cross to come into town. It was built in 1861 in order to be able to demand taxes for trading people going in and out the town. The town wasn't very big then!

No Hanne, not the first one. It was usual long for that time.

It IS very beautiful, Ank, and perhaps you are right!! A bright ship's boy had all the chances he wanted in a town like this!! Thanks so very much!!

I don't know if it's the first one, hardly I think, but authorities have always been formidable to find out how to get hold of the money in people's pockets!! Indeed they keep the bridge well, but of course - lots and lots of tourists to look at it and pass it every year!! A nice income for the town!! Thanks so very much PG!!

So this is where the first toll bridge came from. It is a very lovely and I bet in its day impressive crossing point. It was built to impress and collect tolls. They do a wonderful job of preserving the bridge.

A beautiful bridge Hanne. And yes for me it also has a bit Chinese. But a trading city, maybe the builder has been ship's boy in the past.

Elfie

Thank YOU too, Jan!!

JiggyBelle

You are so right on the "Asian feel" to this bridge, Hanne! It is wonderful! Thanks so much!

Elfie

Yes, isn't it?? Looks a bit Chinese to me!! Thanks so very much Ardy, I do agree with you about age and looks!!

Isn't it the good thing in life, Jana, there are always new things to learn if you have your eyes and mind open!! Thanks so very much for your sweet comment!!
