Yes they are beautiful in their simple lines. There is a lot of mathematics behind this simplicity though, citycoed. Maybe those were the famous 'secrets' of the masons of that era, who knows?

Lovely puzzle, they don't make arches like this now do they! Simple lines but ageless simplicity is timeless.
