This little excuse for an egg was in one of the nesting boxes yesterday. Not sure who laid it but the 3 Amerecauna hens from May are still too young and I would think their eggs will have some blue colour even though they are mixed breed.

It's hard but thin Kathy, very translucent. I've had small ones before but this is ridiculous. Half the size of a quail egg, or less even :-))

Was the shell on the tiny egg hard or soft?

It's just a cheap little digital Sony camera that I'm using Mandy. That egg is completely transparent. When you hold it to the light you can see right through it. It's about the size of a marble :-)

Well most of the regular eggs get given away to family and friends Gail. I also hard boil eggs to feed the quail and the little chicks for extra protein. I'll boil that little one as well but I already know that it won't have a yolk. All the small ones I've had were yolkless. Would be good if I could get big ones like that. It would be a whole new industry :-)

Edie - you get the most amazing clarity in the photos - considering how tiny the eggs is, it does look more like a bouncy ball than an egg though!! Thanks :~)

What are you going to do with these eggs?

No, I can only guess. It's from a bantam hen and I'm guessing not one of the 3 hatched in May as they're still too young. So that leaves Suzy, Bella or Donna. I would guess Bella as she hasn't been laying for weeks now since she was trying to hatch eggs. Sometimes they drop an egg like this when they're getting back to laying. I've just never seen one this small. It's the size of a dime. LOL

Did you ever figure out where the little egg came from, Edie? :-))

Not even close Faye. It's the size of a fingernail, or smaller. LOL

Okay...who stole my ping pong ball? Come out whoever you are!

It's not extra large Ardy, it's from Seraphina the remaining Amerecauna who had the failed nest with 13 eggs. The dark brown one is from one of the Cuckoo Marans and small blue is from a bantam Amerecauna and then there's the mystery egg, about the size of a penny. The Silver Penciled Wyandottes lay the biggest eggs, from any of my hens.

So where did the extra large egg come from? Wonder if the hen said, "Ouch!" Thanks, Edie Just finished my breakfast and exercise break.
