Why are you reporting this puzzle?

In February I toured the central California coast. An area I found most interesting was around San Simeon. The famous Hearst Castle is about a mile from there. My photo here was taken about five miles north. In the foreground is a few of the numerous Elephant Seals on the beaches on this part of the coast. In the background is the Piedras Blancas Light Station. It was built in 1875 and was originally 100 feet tall. An earthquake in 1949 led to the turning off of the damaged upper 30 feet. With a little effort it is possible to arrange a tour of the light station.

The danger with the seals is they look like they would be slow on land, but in fact they can move quite quickly.

Thanks, seagirl7. That helps. connie

WV, these seals are on several beaches in the area but spectators are only allowed access to the beach in my photo. You can view them from the bank over looking the beach but you are not allowed on the beach. The closest we could get to a seal that day was about fifty feet. I don't know a thing about the waste they leave. I read some facts about them and feats they do in the water and it was incredible. On the beach they look very slow and awkward. The males are very large and I, personally would not want to get real close to them but don't know how aggressive they are.

Nice, seagirl7. This is an all-around great shot of the coast, and everything featured in the photo. How dirty are the seals? Do they leave a lot of waste in the water and onshore, like other animals or creatures who live where humans like to play? Are humans allowed to even walk where the seals are, or would it be dangerous if they were? I know nothing about any of the seals, but am curious. Thanks, connie
