Thanks JC. Often after a disaster some important changes are made. Because of the Titanic disaster I think all large ships are designed differently and have stricter safety rules.
Cevas, one of the things that changed after the Joplin tornado is instead of warning an ENTIRE county, now they will say which part of the county is in danger. Our counties are real big out here and 30 to 50 miles away can have entirely different weather!
For example, in one thunderstorm just last month, Joplin got a half inch of rain, Granby got 2 and a half inches and Neosho got 3 inches. That area is much smaller than Vancouver. And that happens all the time.
Hi JC. Thanks for the info about the naming of storms. I agree with you. It might be confusing if all storms are named. I remember seeing some video footage of two women, a mother and daughter, in Japan who almost died in that huge tsunami. They had heard so many warnings over the years that they ignored this one and didn't run to higher ground.
Thanks, cevas. The Weather Channel is naming winter storms, NOT The Weather Service! The Weather Service explored this idea years ago and decided it was confusing and not a good idea. My thinking is The Weather Channel is doing it for the ratings.
One of the reasons that so many people were killed in the Joplin Tornado was that we became complacent about all the tornado warnings over the years. I worry that the same thing is going to happen with named winter storms!
Beautiful picture! The trees are lovely. When the temperature changes so quickly it's hard to dress properly. Are they naming winter storms now? I thought only hurricanes and typhoons were named?
This was "winter storm Brutus". We got a little thunder and it rained most of yesterday. We got about an inch of rain. BTW, it was 67 this time yesterday and now it's 23.
I am in no hurry to walk the dogs.
