My Dad was the mechanic on a Traction Engine in Eastern Oregon that beat a fifty team horse drawn wheat harvester. The end of the Horse Drawn Era.
These things were used back in the latter part of the 19th century and into the 20th. They werepositioned at one end of a field and used to pull the plough's from one end to the other, that's apart from general towing duties.

I hoped there would be an explanation as to what this engine does and for what and when.
