These homes were used to store food in. The two floors made it perfect for hanging meat from the ceiling in good distance from the claws of greedy animals. Thanks for your interest, dondi!!

Very interesting. Any idea why they're built off the ground? In cold climates, that just lets cold air (and snow) under the floor. Or is the lower section storage (including food) and the upper, wider section the living quarters?
