Chicago is famous for deep-dish pizza, which is a combination of traditional pizza, pie, and casserole. A cast-iron pan, usually about two inches deep, is lined with dough, forming vertical outside edges, and then filled with tomato sauce, cheese, and whatever toppings make your heart happy. By tradition, Chicago is a meat-centric former stockyard city, and all forms of meat rule here, especially sausage. Some people think deep-dish pizza is heavy and hard to eat, but it’s not. When done right, it has a light, flaky, buttery crust, which is just thick enough to hold all the sausage, a pound of cheese, and the tomato.

Pizza is an oven-baked, flat, round bread typically topped with a tomato sauce, cheese and various toppings. Pizza was originally invented in Naples, Italy. Pizza was considered a peasant's meal in Italy for centuries, but today pizza is now worldwide with many variations.

Over 5 billion pizzas are sold all over the world each year. Americans eat approximately 350 slices of pizza per second. And 36 percent of those pizza slices are pepperoni slices, making pepperoni the number one choice among pizza toppings in the United States. Saturday night is the most popular night to eat pizza. The world’s fastest pizza maker can make 14 pizza in 2 minutes and 35 seconds.

The first pizzeria in North America was opened in 1905 by Gennaro Lombardi at 53 1/3 Spring Street in New York City.

Thanks Thatchipdog, I wonder what cat's enjoy about tomato sauce??

monza006

Nothing but sugar!! Who decided cats can't sense sweet!! LOL

skpy

Even funnier though, is my daughter's cat - she loves marshmallows... Now they say cats have no sense of sweet - but what else is there to marshmallows?

Cool Skpy, a friend of mine had a cat who loved tomato paste/sauce.

Thankfully Skpy, I've never had a cat like that - it would annoy me intensely having to fight with the cat to eat my food!!!

If your cat becomes too much of a nuisance Wendy, perhaps you could send it to Florida to find out about Vessuvio's! Most of the pizza places around here do actually cook them on the premises, but probably from frozen bases with just the topping added as requested!! I only tend to eat take away pizza when my youngest is home... she adores it! My oldest can't stand it!! LOL

One of our cats definitely would rather eat pizza than catfood. I prefer a really thin crusted pizza. A place called Vessuvio's in Tampa Florida made the very best, and I'm clueless whether they still exist. Where I live the pizza places make pizzas that are no better than frozen pizza but cost a lot more. It's pretty ridiculous.

I had a cat who just loved tomato sauce. She would stick pretty close when we had pizza or spaghetti! The cat here reminded me of her!
