Then and Now: My Three Year Puzzle Making Anniversary!! ~ Large
Why are you reporting this puzzle?
Today marks the day three years ago that I ventured into puzzle-making. And this puzzle is the first ever that I made, but improved with all that I know how to do now. I think my kaleido making skills have improved a hundred fold. But I look at this puzzle, even improved, and wouldn’t post it today! For those interested, here are links to the original, which I only posted in three sizes:

After more than a year of solving and loving June Shone and Starshine’s kaleido collages – I decided to spend my Christmas break from work, exploring how to make them. Days of research to find the software and a collage maker later, I finally dipped my toe in the water. I decided that my point of difference would be collages of kaleidos all made from the same type of thing. As you may see from the comments on the original puzzles, I didn’t imagine that I would be doing it for long. Just the few weeks that I was on holiday. Well …………… how wrong I was. I ended up posting every day except Tuesdays and Thursdays! And then from May – every day! That soon caught up with me. I work 6 days a week, and just couldn’t stay on top of it all. In October 2013 I pulled back from mid-week postings to just Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. And then from the end of 2013, I pulled back again and now only post regularly on Saturdays and Sundays (and at other times for special occasions).
And even though I am a bit embarrassed at how amateurish my puzzles looked in those days, the one thing I am regretful about in looking back is that I was able to express my interest in unusual things more in those days, and the solvers were interested in them too. I posted a lot of non-pretty but interesting kaleidos made from all sorts of things like Tunisian pottery, babouche (look ‘em up people!) and autumn leaves. These days it seems that “pretty” colours are the order of the day, and bright, bright, bright!
I think I make more complex kaleidos now. And make sure the whole image is full of the kaleido! And of course I’ve learnt to make other styles of images, and can now bust out of the collage format too. Oh, and I worked out how to do coloured backgrounds. That was an exciting discovery! It’s been an amazing three years. I’ve grown creatively (from a base of zero!) and learnt how to do things I never imagined that I could do! And despite some ups and downs, I’ve had a great time.
To the people who were there in the early days, those that I found along the way, and my newest solvers – thank you. I appreciate your support and friendship. Sorry for going on for so long here. Once I started, I couldn’t stop. LOL But it makes for a long scroll for those who just want to get to the comments.
I made these kaleidoscopes from freely available images of gemstones, and use a variety of programs to make my kaleidoscopes, colour the backgrounds and assemble them into a collage. It gives me immense pleasure making them, and I hope it gives you pleasure solving them. (•‿•)
