Why are you reporting this puzzle?

When I looked at this photo I took, the words of a popular song came to mind, so I made it my title. Many popular artists have recorded that song, beginning in the 60s. This is an American Coot. They are odd little birds. They are duck like in appearance, but actually belong to the rail family. They have large weird looking feet that look more like those on a chicken than that of a duck. They spend most of their time in the water. They sometimes come on land but are pretty awkward when doing so. They are also poor flyers. I have seen at least a couple thousand in our Western states but unlike ducks, I have never seen one of their babies. That is kind of strange given the fact that the babies leave the nest one day after hatching.

Also have the memory of being in a duck/goose blind and having them sound like a duck/goose in the early morning hours only to creep up and see the red eyed devil!

WVHillbillytoo and littlebuttercup, Thank you both for your Coot comments, Terry.

I like coots too. And this is a great photo! The water looks so beautiful.

Coots are one of my favorites. Years ago, when I worked in a flower shop here in town, I was delivering flowers to the manager of a bunch or condos on the beach at Port Aransas. There was a coot that hung around the office. He waddled off a few feet when I came to the door and when I left, he went right back to the door. I talked to the lady at the desk and she said the coot hangs around her door all the time. I didn't ask if she was feeding it, but I think she probably was. Of course, his pond was right outside her door. That's my coot story. Thanks, Terry. connie
