We will not talk about tulips and daffodils, they just don't make it in our yard. I am a brown thumb kind of gal. (Veggies are the exception) I love flowers, but they always seem to be obstinate or troublesome. My peonies attract swarms of ants from all over the neighborhood. So, goodbye peonies. However, the roses love it and so do rhododendrons. You can guess what I have around our house...oh yes, and the hydrangeas, which create their own jungle on the north side. Your description is hilarious. Do wish I had that kind of neighbor for our long trips!

whatnauts

I'll be purchasing one flower basket in about a few weeks to place in a planter I have out front. And my neighbour will water it most days when he waters the flowers his wife plants since it is right next to a shared fence. The only time I have to worry about it is when they go on holidays!! LOL There are a couple of beds of perennials around the house, and I will pull the weeds when they get bad, but I really don't care much for gardening and have mostly ruined a small flower bed in the center of my front yard with my lawn mower. The previous owners of my house did a great job planting perennials, but I unknowingly pulled some of them, thinking they were weeds. So I suppose I have ruined most of the flower beds in one way or another. Oh well....

It's the only way to go. My husband suggested it and it was brilliant. Now my father (91 yrs) and 2 brothers have all decided to do it. It encourages you to plant, makes gardening fun and is well worth the money. My brother built his own and that was even more cost effective. As to our weather? Thursday and Friday are back to normal again. Sigh.

whatnauts

Wow, that's pretty warm for this time of year, JiggyBelle. It's very clever of you to have your garden beds up high. I would consider planting some veges if I had that kind of set up!

JiggyBelle

Whatnauts - we just got the garden in today. We are having a string of 27C days and it was too good to pass up! But, in a week, we will be back to the rain and about 12C again.
Luckily, we were smart and our garden beds are high enough that you don't have to garden on your knees. Yippee!

JiggyBelle

Den - thank you so much! I always enjoy your puzzles and it's great to see you here. Fall is my favorite time of year. So much color and such delightful weather....usually not too hot and not too cold. 27C???? That is a bit much, though. I agree completely about the tomatoes. And, when you consider how little you pay for a plant and how much it produces......that's a bonus! Buddy, the dog, is the funniest little terrier and that is just ONE of the odd things he does. :)))

whatnauts

Sounds scrumptious, JiggyBelle. We did have a day or two of decent weather (approx 15C), but now we're socked in for the weekend. I know you are familiar with this :)))) LOL

Hi den - I haven't seen you for quite some time. I hope things are good with you :)))

den1

Thanks Jiggy - what gorgeous patterns. We are just finishing our summer and into cooler autumn weather here in Melbourne, Australia. But it was 27Celcius (80F) here today so still some warm weather left before winter sets in. There's nothing like home grown tomatoes, is there. Such a vibrant rich flavour compared with store-bought. I hope you dog behaves this year, but I had to laugh at his "blue-mouthed" giveaway!

JiggyBelle

We plant the best tomatoes, literally, in the world. Then 3 kinds of lettuce, sugar snap peas, broccoli, Walla Walla onions and blueberries. Unfortunately the dog discovered the blueberries last year. We couldn't figure out where they all went.....until I caught him "blue mouthed!" But, now that the beds are all ready, the rain will set in. I hate to garden in the rain.
I hope your weather is just perfect later this week! :))))

whatnauts

What are you planting? A garden? We can't even think about planting vegetables or flowers for several weeks yet. It's still cold here, but things are looking good for late next week. (fingers crossed)

JiggyBelle

Yesterday we had downpours and then sun, repeat, repeat! It was tough because we were driving the whole day. Today is supposed to be sunny, but still too cold to plant. I am happy we aren't having your snow, but wish you weren't either! Let's all start cheering for Spring to come out on stage! :)))))

whatnauts

Oh wow, we got snow again this weekend with more to follow during the week. It wasn't much, but since winter's snow had mostly disappeared, it's a little annoying. Of course, it's also gotten colder. The worst part is the forecast has changed for the coming week (and not for the better!) Oh well, I suppose spring will arrive eventually.......

JiggyBelle

Thanks, Whatnauts! I am just starting to see real flowers. They always make me smile. There may have to be some new kaleidos made from them..... :))

whatnauts

Gorgeous flowers/kaleido! Thanks much, JiggyBelle :)))))) (63:40)

JiggyBelle
