The roof is almost finished - they just have to finish the ridges but ran out of copper nails.

Thank you Hebe :o)

The man from the mature tree nursery came today (I decided I needed trees that were already 12-15 feet high - I can't wait 20 years!) and we are putting three Himalayan birch trees in my large front lawn and a hawthorn which has vibrant colour for the back garden where there is a space. I think one of those pillar cherries would grow in clay as long as we incorporate some good drainage - the blossom in spring would be wonderful.

When I planned our garden my sister said" you need vision with trees". She was right.
In my cottage I put a pillar flowering cherry which is gorgeous in the spring and has
pretty leaves and bark at other seasons. Good luck with the plans, the cabin looks
Fantastic

We get a lot of wind here, but the weight of the pot prevents much swinging in my 3' - 4' macramé hangers - I think there would be even less in the short ones that have wire hangers. The plants take a beating, though! Looking forward to more photos.

One more for a ten stars!

Brie1648

Wow! There are a lot! Whoever would have thought a Little House next to the Cemetery (apologies to Laura Ingalls Wilder LOL) would have caused a virtual galaxy! Thank you :o)
Pots - yes, hanging baskets? - blowing a gale at the moment so I'll have to think about that but likely.
Vine on the railing...hmmm...not too sure

jyl

LOOK AT ALL THE STARS!!!

RebeccaB

I can't wait to see al the flower pots & hanging baskets! And maybe a vine on the railing??

Brie1648

Thank you! Any way they come - hot, warm or cold - they will be delicious :o)

mackabroin

lol ......I am in vancouver.......will they be cold by the time I get there?? I can wrap them up cozy in a teatowel......your "hidey/hole is going to be wonderful...good luck with the trees

Brie1648

Thank you Jan - it has been wonderful having the 'blank canvas' of a garden, to do what I want to do. I shall probably put a couple of raised beds (a sign of age creeping up on me) to have the flowers I want, and some pots on the cabin deck too.

Brie it is looking great and I love your plans for a large tree and then some hens! We'll all be there as soon as it is finished. LOL. Thanks and hugs.

Brie1648

Thank you Barb and Lyndee. The men worked so hard to get it completed. With two of them on the roof I was delighted that the building was strong enough to take their weight!
The garden was originally part of a farm field, the trees you can see are in the cemetery. I love them for the privacy. I had a good crop of oats growing but they have since gone! I need a tree to fill a gap where I can see over the fence to the house on the other side plus I would like a couple in the front as the lawn there is just lawn with no features at all.
As the soil is clay we want the chap from the nursery to give us a soil analysis so we know exactly which trees will flourish - and give us colour in the autumn and blossom in the spring.
Can you ship your trees over Lyndee?

lyndee

Really cute Brie. I wish I could give you some mature trees, we're cutting down three of ours!!!!

SunnyBarb25

It is great, Brie and kudos for having a roof almost done :)))

Brie1648

This puzzle was a whopper! I'll publish as we make progress :o)

ladywil2

that is a cute little place.

Jumble

Sounds great, can we have progress photos please?

ekopug1

Wow! Brie, that looks great! I love the color!!!!!

Brie1648

We decided that some insulation under the floor boards would be a good idea, so that's next. The paving stones will go along the back of the house and round in front of the cabin ( where the grey stuff is in the picture - a bit further to where the doors are.
I have a small space - about 30 square yards at the side of the house to the right of the cabin as you look at it. I have asked the chaps to place the old paving stones around the edge and leave the rest to grass. I want to get a couple of rescue battery chickens next year and it would be a perfect space for them.
Then the mess that will be the lawn will be rotivated and turf laid. We have the tree specialist coming Aug 5th as I want to put in a couple of mature trees - (I haven't the years left to wait 30 years to reach full height) and there is a wonderful mature tree nursery about 10 miles from here.
That's the plan!

So cute! I love the way the doors are angled and the super deck on this. What a fine little space you've created!

Jumble
