This is called Tongkonan, the traditional houses of the Toraja people.

I just watched a special on them and they keep them much longer than a year -- they keep them to honour them and you have to be wealthy to be able to do this. The homes are replicas of their coffins . I've been thinking about this awhile and I like it. Just keep grandma in her own room always dressed appropriately and bring her out for holidays and special days. I asked my kids to consider this when I depart
