This 17c Villa was in over 70,000square meters of fabulous gardens. With a superb collection of art work it was one of the most important stops on the Grand Tour. In the later part of the 19c Princess Marianne of Nassau bought it and gave it as a wedding gift to her daughter Carlotta on her marriage to Georg II of Saxe-Meiningen. He was a passionate botanist and made a lot of improvements to the gardens. He was very fond of Rhododendrons and azaleas and in spring the gardens are a stunning mass of their colourful flowers. We arrived at the end of the season but there were still a few in bloom.

Thankyou Ardy! It sure beats a toaster!! ;-)

The grounds are known as the English Gardens, Jan, and are absolutely lovely.
See your fondue dishes and raise you SEVEN quiche dishes! I've still got four of them and have only ever used them for making quiche twice. There is a saying over here, " Real men don't eat quiche"! LOL :-)

How stately and beautiful. I would love to see it "in person." The grounds must be gorgeous.
BTW, I got several fondue dishes at my first wedding. . . . LOL
Thanks, Hester!

Imagine receiving that as a wedding gift. It looks so lovely. I'm enjoying your descriptions, Hester, as well as your pictures. Thank you.
