And Patricia - they will all need the NHS in future years for treatment for arthritic necks and thumbs. When you walk behind them they look like they have no heads as they are always looking down. So sad when what is glorious is all around them - and for free!!
Now the weather is nice, I go with my 'Young Man' to Holland Park to catch some rays. I was puzzled when I saw all these youngsters traipse around the place glued to their phones - like hordes of retarded wildebeest. Turns out they all playing Pokémon Go (don't ask: I don't really know nor do I want to). Totally oblivious to all the beautiful trees, plants and gardens complete with assorted wildlife they have there. Such a crying shame! (and, yes, I do have a mobile phone - it resides in my handbag and only gets switched on if I am meeting someone somewhere, just in case)
I suppose it beats standing in the freezer section of the supermarket having a conversation about which size bag of peas to buy...how did we ever manage to survive?
Oh the public phone box - the smell, the grubby directories - grim! I still use a fountain pen and write letters on paper occasionally. I don't have a mobile phone and I don't drive so no need of a sat nav! I love the modern technology but I do like being able to be non-contactable.
It drives me nuts too! I once asked the "kids" at work how they thought I had survived my childhood, adolescence and young adult life without all the trappings of modern technology and having to walk to a telephone box or (perish the thought) write a letter in order to communicate with friends. The blank looks I received from them spoke volumes but I felt my middle name should have been Methuselah....
Agreed !!! Even in a poorer country (some of Mexico) it is a passion, even though they can't afford it. One of the riches men in the world (Carlos Slim) made most of his money with these things !!! Dave
Hi Irene! I hate them - with a passion! Do you think the other girl has her phone tucked in her knickers??? A family of six walked past us on the prom. There were 4 teenagers and 2 adults and all six were looking at their phones. How sad is that?
