Sam ting they just change the spelling a little and everything is now made in China.

Someone gave me a pair of cufflinks with the flying horse on them, but certain problems prevented me from getting what I really wanted.

Don't you mean "Ginsu"?

photogent

Well flying horse to you Ms. Plumpy. Did you get one for yourself? Don't they have a knife with that same name?

"Flying Horse Of Gansu

"Eastern Han dynasty, 25 - 220 AD
"Gansu Provincial Museum

"This outstanding bronze horse has become an iconic emblem of China. Racing through the skies, it treads on a swallow (base of statue) that looks up in amazement. Unlike Pegasus, the Western flying horse, the wingless Han steed is meant to be understood metaphorically rather than literally; it represents an ideal horse that can gallop so fast that it seems to outrun the wind.

"The sculpture is perfectly balanced on only one hoof, to complete the illusion of flight."

That is understood but it sounds so good the way I say it.

Plumpossum

And, of course, the Queen makes the rules for the King.

photogent

I believe the legend has it that the horse was so fast it flew on the backs of doves. When you are the king you make the rules that is why it is good to be king.

The "Flying Horse of Kansu"! I fell instantly in love with it at first sight! I thought it was a swallow under its foot?

When I was in China I got a casting of the horse on a dove it is very lovely and a national treasure but they would not give me that one cheapskates.

Plumpossum

Yes, Hanne - - it is Chinese.

Elfie

Looks oriental, is it?? Thanks so very much Varda!

Plumpossum

Except that it appears to have had its ears cropped, as was the custom long ago in certain parts of the world.

photogent

Nice horse and it is not mistreated.

Plumpossum
