Same here. My heirloom tomato plant produced one tomato. Even the pear tomatoes are not prolific.
The quince tree is though.
Savor this last squash, and hope things turn around next year.
I worry about all the farmers (especially the small growers) who may not make it to next year with their farms, thanks to a recalcitrant Congress who couldn't pass the farm bill because of SNAP (food stamp) issues before going on vacation, even though it's one of the most nonpartisan bills on the table. Congress has reached a new low -- 10% favorability rating -- never seen before. Sorry to get all political, and I try not to on Jigidi, it's just that your comments brought out my feelings.
If it was not for the farmers market down the road I would have gone hungry, not that I don't need a little of that too.
Did I mention that I have great respect for farmers?
It's been a bad year for almost everything I planted. Only enough tomatoes for a few sandwiches, greenies devoured by bugs, many seeds didn't even bother to germinate, and almost everything suffering from the goofy weather.
Very nice. You have one more then me the bugs got all of my plants.
Wow, that could almost pass for a watermelon! Thanks, Plumpy.
