My books are like my community. They're all people, dead or alive, that because they communicated their knowledge and/or story telling ability, my life is richer. I've donated the larger portion of my books and still have five big bookcases left. They are all "favorites" for one reason or another. For obvious reasons, I try to only go to the library now. I do often go on shopping trips with my grandchildren on their birthdays so they can pick what calls to them. Thanks for your comments - love of books is a bond - and I agree, it is difficult to fathom anyone without them. (Oh, and I like frogs too - but they're harder to read!!!!!!)

Every year at Christmas, about two dozen books get gifted among my immediate family members (and, of course, on birthdays and Mothers and Fathers Day, there are piles more!), and there are only five of us! None of my children's spouses are that into reading, and I always wonder who these strange people are...! LOL! Books have been my life-saver since I was little, and I can't imagine a world without them.

Wonderfully put, Kate. I agree completely! My brother and his family don't read for pleasure and I am constantly surprised about this!

Thanks - you're right. I wonder if our great grandchildren will ever even hold a book in their hands. But whether "wings" come to our descendents from books or computer technology, I hope they appreciate them and the joy, information and inspiration that will be passed down to them and help them fly too..

I think this puzzle should be titled - "good friends and even better friends."
Gotta have my books! (even with a Kindle). Thanks so much, Kate!

Thanks Pat, I do love my computer and all the access it gives me but I am soooo grateful I have lived also in the age of books. They have been my wings through time and space and knowledge and pleasure since I was very, very young.

I see a "Great Books" volume, I think--do you have that set, too?!!! I always think of its Syntopicon as Google before computers--what a wonderful and painstaking effort that was!
