In todays photos you see a complex of mounds called Maglehoeje. We visited them last summer in North Zealand. Actually there had been 25, now there was 11 left. They were built from 1800-1100 bC, but were used for 2000 years, which means that they were re-used.

I'm so sorry Edna, but they haven't been excavated!!! - and I can't find any reasons for why they have not! They don't look either as if anybody has robbed them.... so - perhaps when the municipality gets some more money they'll do it... it's often a question of money.. thanks :-)))

Hanne , did official excavations ware done at the 11 existing mounds ? and if yes,
what was found besides skeletons ? it is very interesting , thank you !!! :-)))

Elfie

The missing ones have been plowed down as time passed by. Things like these mounds weren't preserved until 1934, so many are not-existing anymore! They are on private land, and it was up to the owners if they would keep the mounds or plow them down. But since 1934 it's forbidden to remove them. It's in Denmark! Thanks Peggy! :-))) I'll tell you when we are in Sweden!

What happened to the missing ones? Were they torn apart for development by various people and times? Are they on private land or owned by the government now as part of their heritage? Is this in Sweden or Norway?
