Great, Pat! :-)
I would love your input on the puzzles that puzzle me, Wendy! I've had those conversations with whatnauts many times, and I value her thoughts--and I know that you are not only a great creator, but a careful student of the statistics of Jigidi, so I'm sure your comments would be very helpful! Thanks! And I'll offer my opinion on anything you ask about as well, of course!
Sue, Pat and I don't have the confidence yet to sign our names on our creations and there are others in the same boat we're in. For us, the additional category (Pat's "Original Creations by Jigidi Member") would be perfect.
And yes, the THEMES category was a good idea but it ends up being too 'messy.' Come to think of it though, if Birthday puzzles were in a separate THEMES category, they would get even less solves. I think you're right about the personal message being something that people veer away from...because I've even done that myself.
Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed your birthday puzzle....even though I got no cake. ;-)
I post all my own creations under "Art" personally. I only post under THEMES if it is a reminder for the theme week or a puzzle for the theme week or a birthday puzzle. Theme week was originally set up by Magnus to be for the weekly theme only....but people do post things in the oddest places. A person will post 4 flower puzzles at the same time and decide it is a theme, not 4 plant puzzles. Nothing to be done about it. I've asked about other theme choices, as there were originally only about half this many. It is one of those cases where everyone had very defininite ideas and none of them are the same. Ah well. I enjoyed it as my birthday puzzle. They always have fewer solves. Just the facts of life, people don't care for the personal messages. My theme week reminders often have more solves than the birthday ones, even though they are about the same size, have writing on them and are in the same category. I think it's the personal message.
Good, Pat. At least I'm not the only one that's confused about it. Thank you for the support. ;-)
Pat, sometimes when I see you wondering why one of yours doesn't do well, I'm actually pretty sure I know why...but I've always kept quiet. I had actually thought about asking you before...and I'm doing it now. I have wanted to ask your opinion about certain puzzles of mine in the past...but haven't. Let's Make a Deal! I can ask for your opinion...privately if you like, and I'll respond to your 'wonderings' about yours, also privately. I'd say this in an email...but since I'm here right now, this is slightly more convenient.
No! I can't understand why it didn't get well into the three figures either!
Yes, I also post ones I love, even though I know they won't be popular. It's the ones that I think WILL be but aren't, like this one is for you, that I can't figure out...
But Mr. Bugosi, I didn't know what Mary was referring to. Oh, I guess she was referring to this puzzle but I hadn't thought of this as circles and squares.
Kathy, thank you for helping me out! ;-)
Pat, I suppose that's possible but I had mentioned that it would be different. As it turns out, I didn't post any of the other versions...and instead will post them at a later date. The thing is though, is that I sometimes post one that I know won't get lots of solves, but want to post it anyway because I really like it. I've just never been so wrong before about a puzzle of mine before. Perhaps senility is settling in. LOL!
I did notice that you put the words around the edges which I thought was very smart of you. But one of your comments to Sue, if I remember, was that you would soon be posting it in other sizes as well. Maybe people who prefer larger sizes, or who were hoping for an even smaller one, saw that and decided to wait... But I have no idea, most of the time, about what will not do well. (I'm usually not surprised by what takes off, because it's rarely if ever one that I didnt think would be popular, but I'm often dismayed by what doesn't do well... It IS very often something that I thought would be a hit...!).
Never any fear in my knocking anybody off the board LOL I enjoy pulling and watching the puzzle come together. For me it is relaxing. So just know Wendy that this one has been savored both in the 49 and the 20 LOL Great job again Wendy!!!
I enjoyed the conversations below too btw....
No, I was referring to Mary Nolan's comment about circles v squares!....
Pat, thank you for responding. I do know that writing on a birthday card puzzle does make for less solves, but I put the writing at the bottom and I thought the puzzle was so terrific and enticing that it would do really well. Plus, the size was absolutely perfect in 49 pieces.
Oh, I really like your idea about "Original Creations by Jigidi Member"!
That's PERFECT! I still 'owe' Magnus and Stefan an email so maybe I'll suggest it....or better yet, you can. ;-) I don't want to overburden them with suggestions. LOL!
I think it had to do with it's being a birthday puzzle, with writing on it. My birthday swirl for Sue got way fewer solves than my usual swirls, even though it was only 42 pieces, not 49. Granted, the center of the swirl wasn't a swirl, just the message, but I think that people like to solve "pure" puzzles, when they're arty ones, rather than ones with words, which detract from the art...
As far as a new category goes, I'd call it "Original Creations"--either "By Jigidi Member" or "By Poster", or some such designation. Or maybe even just "Original Creations", period... Not as pretentious sounding as "Art"--nor as likely to be confusing to people looking for things like Van Gogh or Monet...
Thank you, Katie. You're a lifesaver. LOL!
Mr. Bugosi, I'm not sure what you're asking. But I had posted this puzzle two days ago for Sue's birthday and I was extremely disappointed with the number of solves. I can usually tell around how many solves a puzzle of mine will get, but I was WAY OFF on this- only 84 solves and I thought it would have double that.
I wonder what I missed??!!............
Well, I went and added another solve.
No, Katie, some of my other puzzles did really well. I think it was the category more than anything else...but still...it really should have gotten more.
Wendy, I LOVE this! Most excellent in design and color. I'm just catching up with some weekend postings from friends. Saw your comment about the 49 piece not doing well - I would've chosen that but I haven't looked at your other profile yet. Maybe a smaller number of solvers was simply a matter of the weekend being nice weather and people were out and about.
Mary, you're right. It would be nice to be able to cross reference puzzles. Also, ideally, there should be another category other than Art, Miscellaneous, Themes, and Mosaics for people like me, Advia, and Pat, where our puzzles rarely fit those categories. Something like "Creations by Jigidi Members" might be a good one...or something along those lines. "Art" might be good except that the majority of puzzles in that category are from established artists.
Now I'm curious what you mean by Mr. Bugosi missing the circles vs squares. I rarely read comments on other people's puzzles...other than a select few because I just don't have the time. Believe it or not, just replying to comments on my own puzzles takes me from 1-2 hours a day!
Too bad you can't put it in both categories, or cross-reference it somehow. I don't miss yours because I have certain people's pages I go to and raid their puzzles daily. Most post in here, but a couple, like Jawz, post Mosaic-type puzzles in Miscellaneous so I just go to her profile and pull them. Loved this, Wendy. Too bad Lela missed the circles vs squares. This is as good as the huge smaller. LOL 1:24 Thanks!
Jan, once again, I agree with you. I would have rather put the birthday puzzle in the mosaics category because it would get a lot more solves that way, but I didn't want Sue to miss the puzzle.
Like you, I think the Themes category should be broken down because it ends up being a catchall for too many different type puzzles. Advia's birthday puzzle did fine though.
The Themes - I have given up on this category since all themes are scrambled together without the option of seeking out a specific theme. (I guess it is due to a Jigidi policy)
Jan, I totally agree with your assessment!
My comment at the 49 size: Very nice and enjoyable puzzle . (Liked 49 size best) My reaction is that 49 was somewhat intricate, while 20 was a "cute quickie".
Ardy, I just don't understand why the 49 piece one did so poorly. Even though it was in the Themes category, I think it should have had twice as many solves as it got. I think it makes for an exceptionally nice puzzle. And I agree with you, this one is too easy.
Did this yesterday but figured I'd give it a whirl again today. This is too easy. But for some it's just right. Thanks, Wendy,
Jan, I posted this in a 49 piece size yesterday with my Wendy_13 alias but because it was in the Themes category, it didn't do well at all (in number of solves). Since you like the 49 piece size, maybe you'd like to try it in that size. I think the pieces look best in the 49 piece size...
