Why are you reporting this puzzle?

Three beautiful brain corals each roughly 3 feet in diameter, many sea fans all normally underwater. This scene stretched right around the Island today and was quite a sight to see close up. Unfortunately it was quite windy and overcast, so picture a bit dark JENNY'S PICTURE.

Hi Nova, you're welcome, thanks.

Nova

I'll have to study up; I know very little about coral, let alone brain coral. Thanks for the lesson, Robbie.

Robbiel

Thanks EF.

eaglefeather

So beautiful!

Robbiel

No Mimi, they are soft and wave in the current, about the texture of thin cardboard. Well cardboard can cut so forget that one! Not razor sharp, thanks.

mipahollo1

Wonderful picture. Is the sea fan as sharp to the touch as it looks? Looks almost razor sharp.

Robbiel

Yes it does Ardy, it was very overcast so I guess that created the effect, thanks.

Glad you saw these yellow, funny how in different parts of the world we can still learn so much. They are this colour in the water, but if you take them out and sit for a while they turn pure white, I guess the sun bleaches them. They are protected by law now, on our north shore they are dying where the cruise ship silt kills them. Thanks.

pumpkinhead

Wow! This is so amazing!!! Kudos to Jenny (as always).
When the tide is normal, would this be a place to snorkel?

OMG, Robbie, I've never heard of these never mind seen photos of them . . . I just love it when jigidi can be such a learning place! Are they always in this color? That had to be just awesome to see them around the entire island . . . . lucky you. They may not be able to talk, but with all those brain cells, I'm thinking when they are out of the water for periods of time, they are processing all sorts of info about US, and of course watching everything. (As in "A Person of Interest"). What fun, thanks so much!!

ringleader

Such detail in this photo. The dark shadows make it look so mysterious. Thanks to both of you.

Robbiel

Thanks Jana and Francine.

bookish

Interesting and educational. Thanks.

Janazlouky

Good photo, thank you Robbie, I like it.

Robbiel

Thank you all for your nice comments, glad you enjoy seeing them as much as we do. Out on the farther reefs they get even larger, they don't talk and they can stand being out of water for hours.

Elfie

This is so very unique!! Thanks for showing these beauties to us, Jenny, you are wonderful with a camera!! Thanks so very much for posting them, Robbie, it's just SO exciting!!
