Why are you reporting this puzzle?

I found this Oystercatcher this spring at Morro Bay, in Central California. They are found along the rocky shorelines of the Pacific coast all the way from the Baja Peninsula to Alaska. They make a unique noise and are generally a fun bird to watch. Their favorite food is mussels but they also eat things like limpets, crabs and barnacles. However, they rarely eat Oysters.

ANYONE: During this election season I have not heard a single positive word about either of these two candidates. Is there anyone on this site that can honestly see something hopeful in either Trump or Hillary and be willing to share it with the rest of us? Terry

Most of the 'uneducated people' I know of, can tell Sh** from Shine-ola, and they are not fooled by 'T' or 'H', but are stuck with "plague or cholera". (Thank you, orlando, for the colorful phrase!) --Merrie

Connie. I have had the same thought, but was nervous to write it. Vips

I'm voting for my dogcatcher. He has to be better that either one of these two. I think we're screwed either way we go, but I can't stay at home on election day. I don't trust Trump as far as I can throw him and Hillary both. But if there's anything worse, it would be for Pantsuit Patty to win. God help us all.
Vips, you ask how Trump got so many to vote for him? He said he likes uneducated folks. I think that's how he got the vote. connie

olando: Vips, I am a conservative Republican. Most of the people I know best are also of that persuasion. However, the state of Oregon where I live is quite liberal and heavily Democratic. Even our state's governor is an openly professing bi-sexual. Over the last number of months I have talked to numerous Republicans and Independents, mostly. Not a single one of them considered voting for Trump in the primaries. I have no idea how he beat out the other candidates. We actually had some good Republican candidates this year too. Traditionally it is hard for the average voter to get an accurate view of the opposing candidates in any election. Our major media outlets are liberal democrats so the news coverage tends to be one sided. I notice, particularly this year, they routinely report only Trumps worst moments and most controversial comments, and he has a number to choose from. On the other hand, I am only seeing Hillary's better moments on TV. The public as a whole does not trust Hillary and dislike her cold calculating personality. If they did trust her, her Democratic opponent, Sanders, who is a self-professed Socialist in his mid-70s, wouldn't be winning as many states from her as he has. Hillary campaign is very well financed and she is very well connected with key players. She will win the nomination shortly but Sander's grassroots campaign did do better against her than she or anyone else expected. I would be very shocked if Trump won. That said, everyone is shocked that he has won the Republican nomination. Terry

Terry. We prefer her, not Trump, but I admit I myself doesn't know her well enough. I'm glad I'm not going to vote, I wouldn't know what to do. Normally I always vote, if you don't, you can't complain, but in this case???
I don't know if it's true, but I read that a lot of Americans has used Google asking: How do I emigrate to Canada?
I still wonder how Trump could get so many to vote for him with his attitude. Vips

olando: Vips, I heard one comment on the news about other countries being concerned about Trump becoming president. That is not surprising since the head of his own Republican party hasn't yet endorsed him. However, I have heard no negative comments about how the rest of the world views Hillary. What do they think of her over there? Terry

olando

Terry. Regarding your next president, I'm worried:-(
In Denmark we have an expression for that kind of dilemma: It's either plague or cholera. No matter what you do ........... Vips

mble111911: Merrie, I think Snoopy or Mickey would be more real than either Hillary or Trump. I would accept your nomination. I know I could campaign better than Trump. I have feared a Hillary presidency for years but couldn't be more disappointed in who the Republicans ended up with. Terry.

Very interesting bird! That is odd that they don't eat oysters-- someone was not paying attention when they gave it that name.
I agree with your comment, Terry. I am almost tempted to write in 'Snoopy' or 'Mickey Mouse' because while they are only in the comics, they seem more adult than the 'real' candidates. I think you, Terry, would be a great president--I vote for YOU! lol --Merrie

olando: Vips, I don't know about your Denmark, but lots of strange things go on in our nation. I find it incredibly strange that in 330 million people, that Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump are the best choices we could put forth for our next president.

olando

Beautiful bird, very special eyes. Strange calling it a Oystercatcher if it rarely eat Oysters. Vips

WVH: Connie, you do not have the Black Oystercatcher on your Texas Gulf Coast but you do have the American Oystercatcher. It looks the same except it has a white breast. Perhaps you haven't seen them because the coastline near you is sandy. They need rocky shorelines with tide pools and other such places for the crabs, mussels and barnacles to exist. There must be some of these in Texas because my bird book says those birds are there. I am not sure if they don't eat Oysters because they are too difficult to open or if it is because they don't like the nasty taste. I know I ate a raw Oyster once and nearly gagged. Terry.

Never seen this bird, but wish I had. It's quite striking. I like the way he found the small tidal pool in that rock to search for food. I'm sure he's a frequent visitor to this and other natural feeding places. This is one of your best captures I've ever seen. Thanks for sharing it with us. Maybe he'd eat oysters, is someone would shuck them for him. That's a pretty hard job to master. Thanks again Terry. connie
