Patsquire's suggestion, grilled peanut butter sandwich. Next time I will add some fried bacon. I made the peanut butter today for the first time. Just roast the nuts and then shell and skin. Put in processor with honey to taste and I used some coconut oil and a tablespoon of corn oil. Whip up and a really healthy and tasty spread. Mine is a bit dry, it is on the plate. Will have to play around with it. I used my french bread I make but really prefer Pepperidge Farm grain bread and always use real butter!

Just an update........today I roasted more peanuts, put in the blender with some peanut oil and honey, whizzed for a while, was a bit dry so put 2 tbsps soft butter and hey presto...........smooth peanut butter with slight crunch!! Thanks again all of you!

dondi

Funny I didn't think of adding honey to home-made, since one of my common lunch snacks is peanut butter and honey sandwiches on multi-grain bread. I used to use only Pepperidge Farms, but at over $4/loaf, I can no longer afford it - and it's not available up here anyway. Roerick, thanks for the tip - so I'm almost there, although I don't usually melt the butter; the blender takes care of that.

And tomato sandwiches, quartina? Don't get me started! I grew up with those, just as you describe, whenever the tomatoes in our garden came in. The best were the tomatoes which were so big one slice (1/2" thick) was a whole sandwich! And sometimes we'd add thin-sliced onion for a little tang, or fresh cucumbers - but then it starts to get cumbersome. "There's only two things that money can't buy / And that's true love and home-grown tomatoes!"

Heidi I told Jenny I saw Elvis at the gas station one day, so she went searching..............YOU FOUND OUT!!! Thanks!

Squire 3 times, so glad you enjoyed the butter mate! Now when Jenny and I got married she knew right away that if it ever came down to a lamb chop or her?...........the lamb chop wins every time.........and she knows it...........so do her 3 brothers (who I don't like) and her 2 sisters (one I don't like) and her children and grand children (I like all of them!) So there!! SHEEEEESH!!!!

You started the ecstasy mate, we all thank you for the inspiration and I know Ardy is beaming with pride and cannot wait to tell all her bell ringers that she is now "RINGER LEADER 10".........Man those bells will be SMOKIN" from now on!!!..........GO ARDYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh and thanks, I think the one I am referring to is about knives on the other puzzle for dondi.

Thank you Robyn, I see you tucked in there!

That is so interesting roerick, the peanut oil makes more sense than coconut or corn oil. Thanks and lucky sons!

Glad you had fun Ardy!

PK and Barb, don't we find out so much on this site?! Thanks!

Stop it Buck! That is radical with the cheese and raisons! Thanks!

Quartina you know what's happenin' girl! We have nice juicy tomatoes off the vine but I must agree that the Greek ones and Italian tomatoes are the tastiest, full of flavour! Thanks!

Hanne I'll join you with that for sure, the only better way for me is frying my bread in the bacon fat! Thanks so much!

Well I hope I didn't leave anyone out, thanks to you all for the fun!

Robbie! I love your Kitchen! You even make peanut butter look delicious!!!

ringleader

You're welcome, Patsquire. Michelle designed my avatar and I was thanking her. That's why my information ended like that.

ringleader

Robbie, you do have a long comment from (at this moment) 20 hours ago. And it's still there. If you left another after that, well.......? TPTB have said all the comments will sort themselves out soon and come flying back.

Robbiel

Oh my gosh, golly, darn, I left a long comment here hours ago and on my other puzzles and the two long ones disappeared with all my bookmarked puzzles!! Have to make parents dinner so will be back in a while, thanks everybody!

patsquire

Thanks Ardy! I looked at ringleader's home page and saw that it ends with "Thank you so much, Michelle." so I thought you were Michelle! But you're Ardy! I'm glad you set me straight so nicely. I never know who's who much anyway. That's why I just used my own name as my screen name. In Vietnam we had "call signs" that were code words so as not to say names over the radio, as the enemy was always listening. You might be "Python Lemon 6" on one operation and "Smoky Table 6" on the next. But I don't think there are very many enemies here on Jigidi . . . . . . at least not the kind who fire bullets and mortars at you!

ringleader

Patsquire, I think you have Ardy (ringleader) mixed up with Michelle (puzzaddled) as I don't see a comment from her here and I'm the one who has had grilled PB before. Don't know if she has or not.

patsquire

Robster, you're a Jigidi sensation! You've started a firestorm of gastronomic ecstasy here!

Michelle, after years and years of telling people about grilled peanut butter sandwiches you're the ONLY ONE who's ever had them before! And now I'm learning about HONEY, and BACON, and BANANAS, and MARSHMALLOWS..............Mmmm-mmm! Yahooooooo!

Elfie

Well, it looks very good - but I think I prefer the bacon and add a little egg!! Thanks so very much Robbie!!!

quartina

Bacon and peanut butter sandwiches have been one of our favorites for decades . . . thin spreading of the PB with about 4 slices of crisp bacon! Next favorite is big slices of "real" tomatoes (not supermarket ones) with Hellman's mayo and lots of salt and pepper . . . on good white bread toasted. I could live of those! But it's hard to find real tomatoes . . . best I ever had were in Greece!

buckeye425

That looks and sounds so delicious Robbie! Keep working on your recipe - I'm sure you can make it more to your liking soon. I love Pepperidge Farm breads too. I like the idea of bacon and peanut butter grilled. I sometimes add Colby cheese and raisins with peanut butter in sandwich.

tigress

I don't have peanut butter a lot but when I do, honey is a great addition (yum). This all looks and sounds good, Robbie. Now you're making me hungry. :-)))

pkin38

Now that's it ... going to try grilled peanut butter .... might even try making the peanut butter ....

ringleader

Robbie, this is fascinating reading. I have made grilled peanut butter sandwiches for years. A relative who couldn't handle cheese suggested it once. I tried it and loved it. Pepperidge Farm products are really special. I grew up with Jif and recently have been using their Simply Jif which has a sightly lower sugar and sodium content. I had a friend who always mixed her peanut butter with honey. Thanks for a fun time. Now I'm hungry. It's almost breakfast time.

roerick3

And I only eat butter---I can't pronounce some of the things listed on margarine---if I can't pronounce it i'm not eating it.

roerick3

Robbie, I make my own peanut butter and have since my kids were little. I had a child with ADHD and had him on a special diet. The whole process you are using is exactly what I did except I used peanut oil and melted butter and whipped it all in my food processor for about ten minutes---that was just the whipping time after the roasting, shelling, etc. My two sons still get their peanut butter from me---I make a batch every week because they both use a 10 oz. jar a week. They eat it on everything.

robryan

Now that sounds like a good experiment Robbie!!! Food for thought!!!

patsquire

I'm glad you tried it and it came out so well, Robster. Looks perfect. I use Jif PB, and since I fry it in a pan and flip it over, the PB has time to melt so that when you cut the X it oozes out onto your plate. Later you get to slide your finger through it and lick it off. Extra yummy!

I got so hungry for it last night, after writing about it on lela's puzzle, that I changed my supper plans and had one. But one's not enough so I usually have a bowl of soup with it. Last night, though, I had a second sandwich! And by coincidence I did what you just said - I made the second one with real butter. The first was margarine, as usual. GUESS WHAT! THE BUTTERED ONE WAS BETTER!

Now switching to marriage counselor mode, you BETTER add Jenny to your reasons for living, ahead of cooking and eating! SHEEEEESH! I can't believe you said that!

Surreal_Heidi

Are you suggesting that patsquire just might be the real Elvis in hiding? Did his peanut butter request give it away?

Robbiel

Actually I shaped it with a knife ikook and yes I know the sauce although I have not used it much. I was only in Amsterdam for an afternoon, I was staying in Rotterdam and got the train up. No I didn't have any there, I spent most of my time watching ships and boats, they were fascinating. Thanks for the link.

ikook

How did you manage to get the peanut butter in such a neat, clean pile on that dish, I wonder? And do you know peanut sauce? I guess you do, Robbie, being such an experienced cook. Did you try satay with peanut sauce when you were in Amsterdam?

Robbiel

Not at all lyndee, my hobby and ONLY reason for living is cooking and eating! I don't try to compete or be better than others, I enjoy trying to make my own recipes better than the last or just as good. I enjoy other people's recipes and make suggestions for a difference. We all have our likes and dislikes, I really enjoy finding out what others like and end up cooking several different dishes to please everyone. I love baked beans on toast (Bush's beans) or a plain scrambled egg (salt and pepper). SO I don't want to make anyone look bad.......EVER!! (I will accept your compliment though, thanks!)

Patsquire's idea BK (but thanks!)

Hi there yellow, you just reminded me.......as well as bacon I will add some local banana, they all go so well, thanks!

I agree Barb, they are top quality bakers! Thanks.

Oh so sorry JM, I hoped you wouldn't notice!! Thanks.

Dondi you brought up the one problem that bothered me yesterday. You can see that mine is quite dry on the plate as well and I want it smoother to spread. Jenny and I were brought up on Skippy and we still use it. I know it is full of sugar but like Hellman's mayo, there has been nothing close to beat it! However, roasting my own peanuts and using honey has such a superior taste, so I am going to experiment some more. I think using some sort of really good oil will help. Thanks.

Hi Tex, so good to see you again...........even though you exaggerate (just a bit!) Thanks!

Hi ebkrueg, I haven't seen them here, we buy the raw ones with the shell and I must admit the flavour is really good roasting them myself. Thanks!

ebkrueg

You can buy raw peanuts already shelled, and the rest of the process remains the same.

texasstar7

Hi, Robbie! I agree with what Beekay said, you're one in a million! Thanks.

dondi

Interesting all around. I've been considering making my own peanut butter. The local food coop in Cambridge would grind peanuts for peanut butter, but it was really dry and hard to spread. I started by adding butter (it is, after all, peanut "butter"), and that worked well, but it needed more oil than I was willing to add as butter - coconut oil is an interesting option. Honey for sweetening is a good idea. My problem is finding good quality shelled peanuts in bulk, cheap - with the quantity of peanut butter I eat, I ain't gonna sit 'n' shell 'em!

JM_Cookie

Did you take a bite out of my sandwich?

SunnyBarb25

This is a great sandwich, Robbie! And I always love Pepperidge Farm anything!

Looking scrumptious there, Chef Robbie, let me know when you add the bacon and we'll be down. You did know that Elvis's favorite sandwich was grilled banana & peanut butter?? (Finally we've discovered where he's been hiding, tsk tsk, you knew all along!!!!)

Beekay

Gee Rob, I think you are the only one I know that can make a gourmet meal from a peanut butter sandwich!

lyndee

You're way too creative Robbie.....you make the rest of us look bad!
