Ohhhh, what a pity! Shame on your neighbour to spoil that terrific beauty. I do remember it well!! But like you I do hope that it might grow up again - if he will allow it to!! Thanks so very much Varda!!
Thanks, Plumpy, as I suspected it is a tree of the hot world, not for here...
Google "poem jacaranda" and you will find three of four interesting poems about this tree and its blooms.
David, the jacaranda is a beautiful flowering tree, very popular here for landscaping, although many people don't like the carpet of blossoms they deposit on the ground. You can see what this tree looked like, before it was massacred, here: http://www.jigidi.com/puzzle.php?id=JUNYA4FK
Some things are wonderful re-sprouters, I guess this must be one of them. Others don't come back even with much less damage. They get flowers, don't they? They aren't exactly "from around here"...
It had been mostly neglected for quite a while when I decided to start watering it. Very soon thereafter the neighbor had it chopped down; this picture shows the sprouts coming from the stump. They will probably be removed, but I hope not. It was a beautiful tree. The neighbor also took out two other beautiful trees in his yard - - a sycamore and an olive. Why? I guess he wants to make a desert of his property.
I vaguely remember this tree, but not the details. Is this one your neighbor destroyed or one you rescued? I love these and wish they'd grow here. Thanks.
