Much upkeep is necessary to keep the old ships in good shape. Here we see the hull of the Charles W. Morgan being painted while in dry dock.
In 2014, the ship went on a voyage....click on the link for a video of it.

The video is very interesting.
Love the sea.

Dilubreuer

am thrilled watching the video...an old ship still operational. was it still be a museum since then?

PLG1958

Reminds me of Steven Wright's line: "It's a small world, but I wouldn't want to paint it." :)

jacki2

ji hope they have more painters working on this or he will be very old when it's done. foolish me, i actually tried to get into that link and got kicked out, had to sign in all over again. will stay away from those for now. thank you suzy.

laurajane

A little necessary TLC.

pumpkinhead

A sprayer would be much easier, Don. A painter we were talking to said he can't paint walls because they are flat surfaces. :)

To see that ship under sail is super, isn't it Shirley?

It was a treat to go on board this historical ship, Janet. Big hugs back!

jan42ful

Fabulous thanks Suzy, what a beautiful old ship. Big hugs.

Shian2

Thank you, Suzy, for the video links, I watched the one of this magnificent old ship sailing, when I have more time I'll have a look at some more, big job to be doing with a small roller.

dondi

Oh, that's a *roller* - I didn't see that, and thought it was an airless sprayer!

pumpkinhead

It was a small roller, smllpkg! I can't imagine doing that for any length of time-imagine the ache in the shoulders and neck!!

pumpkinhead

Happy to hear you checked out some of the other videos, Ardy and Barb. There were some that were quite informative and historical, but very long. Kudos to those who supported the restoration efforts of this historic ship.

The work they did on her to prepare her for the voyage was time consuming and expensive, Don. We too, had to climb those 3 stories of stairs to get onboard. :) I know you have much information about Mystic Seaport, so feel free to add information or correct any information I post!

How cool that the Charles W. Morgan was featured on This Old House! Thanks for sharing that information, Beth!

smllpkg101

That looks like a very small roller for such a big job.

ebkrueg

2014 - that is then when they did a piece on her for This Old House. I did see that.

dondi

If she sailed in 2014, then they completed the work they were doing when I was there, and this is a new episode in dry dock. Painting is much easier with this equipment than when she was in service!

SunnyBarb25

Exactly what Ardy said....thanks Suzy :)

Great videos, Suzy. I watched several of them. I'm glad that some old things are treasured. Thanks. ♥
