an eerie fog or steam hovered over the ground. added to the unreal feeling after the destruction. all my grapes were stripped of their leaves and crop. it was going to be a beautiful year. sigh.

Wow, that's a good photo and an interesting sight; obviously a bit sad for you, though.

I'm so sorry, Trish. (I'm behind on some of the puzzles. I missed this before.)

trish505

thanks for the crossed fingers anezka! in the mean time, i am working hard to give them a good chance to repair the damage in time for next year. they will be fine, i am working to that end.

anezka

Yes, Trish, it happens to us that man working to make their own and nature is against it.
You have to endure it willy-nilly and hope that next season will be better. I keep my fingers crossed for you good luck.

trish505

thanks fodus and robryan. it is really sad. i realized today that they are sprouting out all over, but their growth needs to be controlled so they work right next year. i have my job cut out for me to keep its growth under control. sigh.

robryan

Well - that was a real doozy of a storm Trish!! What a sad sight!

fodus

so sorry!

trish505

thanks Maryma. but the amazing thing is that it showed me some issues that i would not have seen, and since the year is lost, then drastic measures at this time can help the vineyard in the long run. Grapevines are very forgiving, and so sweet. tending them is so relaxing. and yes, next year will be better than ever.

trish505

Yes it was awful lindaisling and Tweegan2. i don't think i have ever been through such a hail storm. this one lasted about 20 minutes. all things green were pummeled. driving down the street, leaves covered the ground and roads. we were luckier than granbury where tornadoes took lives and homes.

trish505

thank you canoekaw. i have been growing grapes since 85. this is a small one next to my home. as my mother always says "That is farming!" Next year will be better.

Maryma

I feel your pain in all four photos trish505, How devastating for you and yours. Nature works in mysterious ways, next season will more than likely be a bumper crop, I hope so.

Tweegan2

So sorry - how discouraging. It must have been an awful storm.

lindaisling

How awful! Was it hail that caused the destruction?

canoekaw

I am so sorry this happened. I hope you have the resources to hang in there. Do they have crop insurance for wine grapes?
