Why are you reporting this puzzle?

Italy, but especially the major cities of Rome, Florence and Venice, were the centre of European politics and trade for centuries. The aggregation of wealth by the church and noble families in the area led to a great demand for high end luxury goods, especially textiles and fabrics that could show off the accumulated riches. This in turn led to the development of amazing craftsmanship.

Most of the textiles shown here are museum pieces now but they give us a glimpse of a past where people showed their wealth in what they wore. Ornate, embellished silk textiles embroidered in gold, silver and precious jewels and beads were created for the Roman Catholic church and the leading noble families such as the Sforza's and De Medici's.

I know Elaine - months, if not years of work in some of these pieces. Nuns and women of all stations were accomplished needleworkers and must have spent a large portion of their time embroidering. glad you enjoyed the puzzle. Jayne

What amazing fabrics. Can you just imagine the hours spent doing this. Janye thanks so much for making this puzzle. It took a while but I completed it. Thanks, Elaine
